The Istituto Tecnico Superiore MITA is located in the Castello dell’Acciaiolo, a valuable fourteenth century building, a fortress that has hosted many events in the city of Scandicci.

Scandicci, located a few kilometres from Florence, is a lively and interesting town, surrounded by gentle, green hills, between the Arno river, to the North, to the valley of the Pesa river, to the South-West. In the city, in addition to the famous Castello dell’Acciaiolo, there are other historical-artistic attractions, such as the churches of Santa Maria a Greve and San Bartolo in Tuto, also in the historical centre, which have valuable testimonies inside them, such as the 14th century table of the Madonna col Bambino by Giovanni da Milano. The church of San Martino and the complex of Villa Passerini, with the annexed former Agricultural Institute, are located on the hill of Scandicci alto. San Martino alla Palma is also one of the most suggestive hamlets of the Scandicci territory. The Museum of Paleontology and Mineralogy of Scandicci, the ruins of the Mulinaccio, in the area of San Vincenzo a Torri and the Parco di Poggio Valicaia with its majestic nature are interesting.

How to get to Scandicci

By car
A1 motorway; Firenze Scandicci exit; follow the direction for Florence of the SGC FI-PI-LI branch to reach the city center, or in the direction of Scandicci to reach the industrial area and the towns of Casellina, Badia a Settimo and San Colombano.

From the airport
From the Airport of Florence, continue by public transport to Firenze SMN station and follow the instructions under “How to get to Scandicci by tram”, or exit the airport by private transport and take the Viadotto dell’Indiano road until its end, continue on Via Baccio da Montelupo until the roundabout, from here follow the signs to the centre.

Agreements have been activated for students with catering outlets (list of restaurants and bars to be requested from the secretariat) and language schools (list of schools to be requested from the secretariat).

Places to study and practice

The Library of Scandicci is close to the headquarters of the MITA Technical High School and easily reachable on foot. Inside the Castello there are classrooms and rooms where you can stop and study.

As for the possibility to practice the teachings: it is possible inside the Reference Laboratories.

Places of fun and socialization

ITS MITA organizes events, cocktails and fashion shows in collaboration with local authorities and companies: students are always invited and involved in the organization and implementation of events.

• For the Institute:

  • The automatic recognition of mobility achievements through the following:
    • signature of the Memorandum of Understanding with international partners in agreement of the ECVET system;
    • written acknowledgement that requirements stipulated in the Learning Agreement have been successfully fulfilled;
    • recognition of the mobility period abroad according to the conditions stipulated through the Diploma Supplement;
    • transmission of the Transcript of Records to the sending HEI ensuring that all the credits earned by the mobile student during the mobility period are recognized and that it is apparent in student’s records.
  • The publicity on the website of the Institute of the Language Policy, which includes the following:
    • definition of the Institute’s Language Policy articles and local agreements with schools and language teaching professionals as a reference for international participants to plan their Italian language learning path;
    • orientation meetings to introduce the partner countries and support the cultural and logistic preparation, in collaboration with local intercultural associations;
    • support for the registration and use of the European Student Card and the Erasmus+ mobile App for outbound participants;
    • pre-mobility mentoring offered by previous mobile participants to motivate and support potential future participants through peer-to-peer group discussions;
    • language preparatory courses in collaboration with local associations and the use of on-line tools such as the Erasmus Online Linguistic Support;
    • a tandem conversation programme;
    • information on how to access Italian language courses before starting mobility activities, in collaboration with local associations and institutions;
    • an agreement with local associations/professionals/institutions in order to have special price or free of charge courses for incoming participants;
    • activities to encourage the participation to sports, cultural and social initiatives of the territory, and to peer-to-peer activities organized in collaboration with volunteer local students and staff.
  • The arrangements for incoming mobile participants, which include the following:
    • Contact Point: The International Relations Office is the main referent for inbound and outbound participants and provide them with all the orientation they might need throughout the mobility, assistance in finding accommodation, as well as a welcome event for incoming participants;
    • Info-pack: A set of paper and digital deliverables on the local facilities and cultural features related to the social life revolving around the MITA Academy for inbound participants, and about the destination country for outbound participants;
    • Briefing: Meetings for mobile participants to explain logistical and administrative items (transport, accommodation, insurance, important contacts centres dealing with health/psychological issues, etc.);
    • Special agreements for incoming students with local services and network of collaborators/volunteers to find accommodation (for short or long period);
    • Mentoring: Providing an individual mentoring service in collaboration with designated volunteer students for the whole mobility period;
    • Socialisation: Encouraging participants to join cultural and social activities in the city and events organized by MITA and relevant local public bodies;
    • Discounts for students at local commercial activities affiliated with MITA (restaurants, clothing stores, bookshops, etc.);
    • Satisfaction survey: A mean for mobile participants to point out any trouble they might have and give feedback to the referents of both sending and receiving organisations. Tutor and students will be asked to complete follow-up questionnaires in order to enhance quality in mobility supporting.
  • The implementation of the process of accompaniment offered to potential mobility participants:
    • Systematic monitoring of training needs and personal interests in the fashion and social/environmental fields by students and teaching and administrative staff.
    • Monitoring and publication of public deadlines for participation in Erasmus calls for proposals.
    • Selection of project ideas in relation to the available calls for proposals.
    • Accompaniment to the construction of partnerships, to the drafting and final presentation of the project proposal.
    • Preparation for the management and implementation of the projects.
    • Project monitoring and evaluation.
    • Finalisation, dissemination, and recognition of credits.
  • The publicity on the website of the Institute of the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education and all the deliverables named in it.
• For the international participants:
  • Active participation in the development of the Learning Agreements for their mobility projects.
  • Knowledge of the Erasmus programme guide and rules.
  • Strict adherence to preparation, implementation and follow-up project plans, communication, dissemination and exploitation activities and safety and health risk prevention procedures, rules and activities defined by the both sending and receiving organisations in the mobility project.
  • Open and clear communication with sending and receiving organisations in order to
    • prevent health or security risks for their own persons and hindrances for the achievements of project objectives;
    • monitor, evaluate and follow-up project results (through activity and project reports).
